Dynasty Sports Performance (DSP) just got very good news!
In its first year in the National Football Association 7-on-7 league, DSP was awarded the chance to host a qualifying tournament, meaning the top two teams will qualify for the national championship tournament to be held in Florida.
The DSP Elite Invitational will be the only 7-on-7 tournament in Kentucky.
“This is a huge opportunity for us,” said DaMarcus Ganaway, Dynasty CEO. “There has never been anything like this held in Owensboro.”
7-on-7 is a passing only version played without pads where receivers are downed by one-hand touch. There are no flags and no contact. 7-on-7 is growing rapidly across the country and has become an opportunity for college coaches to scout young talent.
DSP got its first taste of 7-on-7 competition last year when they participated in two tournaments. This year, DSP is now fielding two teams in the National Football Association 7-on-7 league: DSP Elite (10-12th grade) and DSP Future Stars (8-9th grade).
Since being awarded the tournament Monday, there have already been 16 teams confirmed for the tournament. “We hope to see some SEC or Big10 talent,” Ganaway said. “We have teams confirmed from Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, Illinois and Florida. Several coaches from big schools are interested in coming.”
The tournament will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016.
Games will be played at Kentucky Wesleyan’s football stadium.
