Because even the best home cooks deserve a little help.
I love to cook. I can roast my own turkey, my mashed potatoes are legendary, and I’ve spent most of my adult life trying to recreate the bourbon-drenched sweet potato casserole Miss Edna Porter taught me to make.
But there are some things I’m perfectly happy to let someone else handle. For two very good reasons.
First, it’s their specialty. I cannot be great at everything, and these local businesses have built their reputations around the culinary wonders coming out of their kitchens. Why compete with perfection when I can put it on my table instead?
And second, give yourself a break! Thanksgiving is supposed to be about gratitude, gathering, and enjoying the people around your table. Not spending three days in the kitchen trying to prove you can do it all.
We live in a community filled with talented bakers, chefs, and small-business owners who make extraordinary food.
So, yes, I make the turkey. I whip the potatoes. And Miss Edna’s sweet potatoes will always have a place of honor on my table. But these five Thanksgiving favorites? I happily leave them to the experts.
Every one of these dishes represents a local business, a talented team, and someone who has poured their heart into making something delicious.
This Thanksgiving, give yourself permission to outsource a little of the feast. Support the people who feed our community all year long, take credit for the things you do best, and spend the time you save doing something that you’ll remember!
Happy Thanksgiving, Owensboro. Eat local, give thanks, and pass the biscuits!

Parker House Rolls
Niko’s Bakery & Cafe
Because no Thanksgiving table is complete without a really good roll. And if someone else has already mastered the art of making them, I see absolutely no reason to cover my kitchen in flour.
Strawberry Pretzel Salad
Dalisha’s Desserts
Is it a salad? Is it a dessert? Does anyone really care? It’s Thanksgiving, and this sweet, salty, creamy Southern favorite deserves its own place at the table.
Sweet Potato Biscuits
The Miller House
Yes, I already have sweet potatoes on the menu. No, that does not mean I’m passing up these biscuits. Some things are simply too good to save for another day.
Pecan Pie
The Cottage
Thanksgiving without pecan pie? Not at my house. Rich, sweet, and wonderfully Southern, it’s the perfect ending to a meal that celebrates everything I love about this season.

Pumpkin Roll
Great Harvest Bread
All the flavors of fall, beautifully rolled into one dessert. It looks lovely on a Thanksgiving spread, and it saves me from making one more thing from scratch. OL
