If you’re a fan of chili, Chili for Children is the place to be for lunch this Friday.

Building Stronger Families is hosting a “Chili for Children” fundraiser Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall, located at 4029 Frederica Street.

For an $8 donation, lunch includes chili (provided by Old Hickory), sandwich, dessert and drink.  Sandwich options are pimento cheese, chicken salad or peanut butter.

There will also be a cook-off, where those dining can sample chili from all contestants and “vote” by dropping a donation into a jar next to their favorite.

Chili cook-off contestants are:

  • Old Hickory
  • Big Dipper
  • JD’s Restaurant
  • Colby’s
  • Maloney’s
  • and Ritzy’s

A panel of local celebrity judges will also choose their favorite.  Judges include:

  • Daviess County Sherriff, Keith Cain
  • Owensboro Police Chief, Art Ealum
  • Daviess County  PVA, Rachel Pence Foster

Building Stronger Families (BSF) is a home visitation program for families with children that was started in 1997 to serve at-risk children and educate parents.

“Our primary goal is to prevent child abuse and neglect,” explained Program Coordinator, Linda Wahl. “We believe parents want to be the best parents they can be, but they may not know how to go about it.”

Money raised from the Chili for Children Fundraiser will be used to support BSF services like screening children under five for delays or teaching parenting skills such as creating routines, setting structure and organizational skills.

The program is available in all seven Green River counties.

Find more information about Building Stronger Families here, or contact Linda Wahl at 270-852-2932.
