A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to geotechnical survey work along KY 54 at Owensboro starting Monday, March 6, 2017.

American Engineers, Inc., (AEI), plans geotechnical survey work along KY 54/Leitchfield Road from the US 60 Exit 18 Owensboro Interchange at milepoint 2.7 extending eastward to Jack Hinton Road near the 8-mile marker, a distance of about 5.3 miles.

While some of this work to check on sub-surface soil conditions along this section can be conducted on  the right-of-way without an impact to traffic, temporary lane restrictions may be required from time to time to facilitate the work.

Most of the lane restrictions will be for short sections and fairly brief periods of time at each location. The geotechnical date is being gathered to assist with planning possible future improvements along this section of KY 54/Leitchfield Road east of US 60.

Motorists traveling this section of KY 54 should be alert for work zone lane restrictions between approximately 8:30 a.m., CST, and 4:00 p.m., on weekdays whenever weather permits for about the next 4 to 5 weeks.

Motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic during daylight hours. One lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers may be required along the 2-lane portion of KY 54/Leitchfield Road. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and engineering personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
