For the second consecutive year, Owensboro Health will present Harvest Market, a weekly event that features fresh produce for sale, education outreach and live entertainment on the campus of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Harvest Market takes place each Wednesday, June 3 through Sept. 2, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
“Owensboro Health is always looking for creative ways to improve the health of our communities, and Harvest Market is one way we can make a difference,” said Steve Johnson, vice-president of community, governmental and legislative affairs. “By making fresh fruits and vegetables available right here on our campus, we are not just talking about the importance of good nutrition—we are demonstrating it.”
The main attraction at Harvest Market is the Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market, which brings around a dozen vendors each week offering produce, baked goods and other items. The events are set to live music and often feature prizes, educational exhibits and live demonstrations, ranging from exercise classes to floral design.
During the season, Harvest Market also offers four themed events—called the Signature Series—with expanded displays and activities. Opening day is the first signature event and features a “summer kickoff” theme; items scheduled include How to Make Strawberry Jam, Boat Safety and Container Gardening. Future themes will focus on patriotism, back-to-school, and fall harvest.
“Harvest Market is a fun, festive way to engage local residents in conversations about wellness,” Johnson said. “The events are free, family-friendly and full of practical ideas to help anyone live a healthier, more fulfilling life.”
The hospital is located at 1301 Pleasant Valley Road on Owensboro’s east side. The market will be held in Parking Lot B near the Pleasant Valley Road entrance. Learn more at OwensboroHealth.org/HarvestMarket.
