Owensboro resident and 2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden was seriously injured in a cycling accident in Italy. AutoSports.com reported that Nicky was cycling with a group of friends when he was struck by a car on a road close to Remini, Italy.
According to AutoSports.com, Hayden was rushed to a hospital in Rimini with severe head and chest trauma and remains in serious condition.
After racing in the MotoGP World Championship Series for 13 seasons, Nicky currently races for Honda in the World Superbike series, where he won the Malaysia race and finished fifth in the championship last year. He is currently ranked 13th.
