Both Roger and Nicky Hayden will be racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Red Bull MotoGP/MotoAmerica Indianapolis GP this weekend, Aug 7-9th.
Roger rides for the Yoshimura Suzuki team and will be racing in the Superbike division, the premier class for the MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship, in which he is currently third in points with four second place podiums this season.
According to MotoAmerica website, Roger says he is “excited for Indy. And not just because of the history the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has, but to be racing the same weekend as my brother, Nicky. We will be racing close to home so there will be tons of family and friends there who have never seen me race before. I’m looking forward to racing in front of them. To get the chance to kiss the bricks, which is something I’ve always seen on TV, would be awesome. I hope to get to do that.”
2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden rides for Honda’s Team Aspar in the MotoGP series. After missing last year’s race at Indy due to injury, he is especially looking forward to racing at his home track. Nicky currently stands 21st in the 2015 MotoGP championship and is racing hard toward cracking the top ten, finishing 11th at the French GP in Le Mans.
In a Team Aspar Press Release, Nicky said, “I am excited to race at Indianapolis, my true home Grand Prix, which is really close to where I live. Unfortunately I had to miss it last year and it was tough to be there watching without being able to take part. It also means I haven’t had a chance to evaluate the changes to the track myself yet, although the feedback from the other riders was generally positive, so I’m looking forward to riding. We will be competing alongside the MotoAmerica boys, who will be riding Thursday so there should be some rubber laid down for when we go out on Friday, which is good. It is no secret that the first half of the season has not gone as well as we’d hoped. I have had chance to rest up a little over the last three weeks and also get some training done. I am sure we will return at a higher level for the second half of the season.”
