The Daviess County Public Library (2020 Frederica Street) begins its Director Series tonight. Stanley Kubrick is the featured director for this month, so the library will be showing a Kubrick film every Friday night in August. The movie series is FREE and includes popcorn and drinks, too!
The Killing – Fri, August 7, 8pm – 10pm
An early noir film from the legendary director. Johnny Clay is a criminal out for one last score: robbing the money-counting room of a racetrack during a race. In true noir fashion, however, things don’t go quite as planned for Johnny and his team.
2001: A Space Odyssey – August 14, 8pm-10pm
Often considered one of the greatest films ever made, 2001 follows a voyage to Jupiter after a black monolith is discovered on the moon. Unbeknownst to the crew of the Discovery One, they are in for a much greater journey than they could ever imagine.
The Shining – August 21, 8pm-10pm
This classic horror film from 1980 stars Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance and is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. Torrance is a writer and has just moved his family into the Overlook Hotel. Shortly after a snowstorm has trapped the family in the hotel, a supernatural presence begins influencing Jack.
Full Metal Jacket – August 28, 8pm-10pm
Full Metal Jacket follows James “Joker” Davis (Matthew Modine) through boot camp and into the middle of the Vietnam War. Vincent D’Onofrio & R. Lee Ermey deliver critically-acclaimed performances.
