Friday After 5 kicks off their 2015 season with a full night of music and fun this Friday night. The free, summer-long series now has six venues of entertainment covering the entire Owensboro riverfront.
The lineup for this Friday’s season premier features Caribou on the BB&T Plaza Patio (main stage), Shawn Brashear in the Atmos Energy Courtyard, Atlas Road Crew on the Don Moore Automotive “Party Pier,” and an open Bluegrass jam on the Overlook Stage near the signature fountains.
The Party Pier is a new venue for 2015. FA5 Chairman Kirk Kirkpatrick says the pier (where the former Executive Inn “Showroom Lounge” used to be), is still under construction and won’t be ready for a few more weeks. Until then, there will be entertainment on The Party Pier stage, which will be directly across the street from the actual pier.
“We’re excited about the new season. We’re excited about the new Party Pier. But what we’re really excited about for this weekend is the Non-Profit Block Party,” Kirkpatrick said. “Being a 501c3 ourselves, we know how important community support is to non-profits. That’s why this Friday we’re offering free booths to any non-profit.” The list of booths is still growing, but so far it includes The Red Cross, Dream Riders, Hospice, and many more.
Friday After 5 began in 1996 with four concerts and grew into a 16-week signature festival for the entire tri-state area, hosting more than 50,000 visitors each season. FA5 was again named one of the “Top Ten Summer Festivals” in Kentucky and just won the prestigious Reader’s Choice Platinum Award for “Best Community Event” of the year. The festival includes live bands, family events, food and entertainment and a “Toast to the Sunset” at each Friday After 5.
Hours: 5pm until 10pm each Friday. Party Pier is open from 5pm until 11pm.
