A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to shift traffic for reconstruction of the KY 144/KY 2830 Intersection at the east edge of Owensboro starting TODAY. This is part of ongoing construction finish the US 60 Extension Project.
This traffic shift will convert a 4-lane section of KY 144 that was formerly part of Old US 60 to 2-way traffic running along an eastbound temporary diversion. This will allow reconstruction of the westbound lanes of KY 144 and reconstruction of the intersection with KY 2830 which is another section of former US 60.
This work is along KY 144 between mile point 1.7 and 2.2 near the intersection with KY 2830. As part of this traffic shift, KY 2830 will be temporarily closed at the KY 144 intersection. There will be a marked detour.
Motorists should use appropriate caution where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
This first traffic shift arrangement is expected to be in place about 45 days. Traffic on this section of KY 144 will then be moved to the new westbound lanes to allow the eastbound side to be reconstructed. In total, the project is expected to take about 3 to 4 months to complete.
