The Mayor and the Owensboro Board of Commissioners held a ceremony at the Owensboro Convention Center this afternoon, where two more plaques for the Owensboro Walk of Fame were unveiled.
The new Walk of Fame inductees are actress, Florence Henderson, and Broadway star, Christine Johnson Smith. Florence Henderson was in town today for the unveiling and will also serve as grand marshal for the Owensboro Christmas Parade tomorrow afternoon.
The project is organized by the Walk of Fame Advisory Board, a small committee appointed by Mayor Ron Payne who picks the nominees based on celebrities from all walks of life that were either born in or grew up in Owensboro. Walk of Fame plaques are not exclusively for those in the Hall of Fame at the Visitors Bureau, but most are.
Plaque recipients so far include Rex Chapman (NBA Basketball), Brad Wilkerson (MLB Baseball), Michael Waltrip (NASCAR), The Hayden Brothers (Motorcycle Racing Champions), Darrell Waltrip (NASCAR), Wendell Ford (Politician), Cliff Hagan (NBA Basketball) and Bobby Watson (NBA Basketball).
