Building Stronger Families, a program of the Green River District Health Department, is hosting its 10th annual “Chili for Children” fundraiser on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall, 4005 Frederica Street.
Suggested donation for Chili for Children is $8 (or more) at the door, which includes chili, sandwich, drink and dessert. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
At noon, a Chili Tasting Competition will take place. Local celebrity judges will taste the chili, and one competitor will be named the “unofficial best tasting chili” winner.
Chili for Children diners can also sample a taste and vote on the “people’s choice” award by donating another dollar into a jar by whichever competitor’s chili they think tastes best. (Chili pots will not be labeled so competitors will remain anonymous.) All proceeds go to Building Stronger Families.
Chili competitors include:
- Big Dipper
- Even Steven
- Jay-Dee’s Restaurant
- Maloney’s Pizza and Wings
- Old Hickory Bar-B-Que
- Ritzy’s
Building Stronger Families is a child abuse prevention program that provides weekly home visits to families in the 7-county GRADD region. BSF receives federal funding as a child abuse prevention program which works with families to demonstrate positive parenting and coping skills, which help prevent abuse and neglect.
Building Stronger Families believes that parents want to be the best parent they can be, but sometimes need some help to overcome daily obstacles. BSF has been active helping families for over 18 years. More than 73% of families have demonstrated positive changes in their parenting abilities.
