It was a sight he would never forget, and Lucas Vilorio made a promise to himself that he would never see it again.
Last year, Sorgho Elementary School hosted its annual dance for girls and their daddies or father figures. Family Resource Center coordinator Lucas Vilorio stood near the door, welcoming the children as they arrived. That’s when he saw one little girl turn around and leave; she had seen the pretty dresses her classmates were wearing – dresses her family could not afford.
Vilorio promised there would never be another broken heart on this special night again.
To ensure that every girl who wants to attend this magical evening has a dress that makes her feel like a princess, Vilorio and the staff at Sorgho Elementary School teamed up to create the “Sorgho Say Yes to the Dress Boutique.” This special boutique will be open from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, and from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Sorgho Elementary School, offering the ultimate boutique experience that will allow students to come and select a beautiful dress for this year’s dance.

New and gently used dresses, shoes, jewelry and accessories have been donated, cleaned and lovingly prepared by volunteers, who will work with the little girls and their families to find the perfect outfit for the dance in a positive atmosphere that is also discreet and respectful.
“No child should miss such a special evening because she is in need of a dress,” Vilorio said. “Our goal is that every child will have the special dress-search experience.”
The “Enchanting Night Under the Sea” dance is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the school, located at 5390 Kentucky 56. The evening will include dancing, crafts and snacks for girls and the male role models in their lives.
