Sonya Simpson has been named principal at East View Elementary School. The announcement was made at 3 p.m. today at a special meeting of the EVES School-Based Decision Making Council.
Simpson currently serves as assistant principal at Meadow Lands Elementary School. Before that, she was assistant principal at East View from 2005-2012. She began her career with DCPS in 1998 as a science teacher at Burns Middle School, where she was named staff developer in 2004.
Simpson has a Rank I in education administration (Level I/Level II) from Western Kentucky University and earned her superintendent certification from Murray State University in 2009. She has a master of arts degree in education from WKU and is certified in counseling (grades K-8) and middle grades math and science.
DCPS Superintendent Owens Saylor commended Simpson’s strong contributions at Meadow Lands Elementary School. “Sonya fully embraces the vision of great expectations for all students,” he said. “I am confident she will continue to build strong, positive relationships with the students, parents and staff at East View Elementary School.”
“I am humbled and honored to have been chosen as the new principal of East View Elementary School,” Simpson said. “My goal is to continue the academic excellence and Leader in Me Lighthouse status that East View has worked so diligently to earn. East View has some of the strongest, hardest-working educators in Daviess County. As their new instructional leader, I want to support their efforts wholeheartedly. My vision is to inspire students to grow into 21st century learners and to have the self-confidence to turn their dreams into reality.”
Simpson begins her new role on July 1, replacing Ann Marie Williams, who is resigning to move with her family to Bardstown.
