St. Benedict Joseph’s Homeless Shelter recently received a $25,000 check from four-time PGA Tour winner, Patrick Reed, his wife Justine, and their daughter Windsor-Wells. This gift came from Reed’s October 2015 participation in the Presidents Cup. Those who compete in the Presidents Cup do not receive any prize money but rather are allowed to allocate proceeds generated to charities of their choice. Reed designated St. Benedict’s to receive a contribution in memory of the late John Lohr Kessler and Betty Baldwin Kessler of Owensboro, the grandparents of Reed’s wife.

Harry Pedigo, director at St. Benedict’s, said the Reeds’ gift will bring them one step closer to their goal of building a transitional home for men.
“When you have Jesus on the mainline, it’s people like Mr. Reed that answer the call, and for that reason St. Benedict’s continues to move forward,” said Pedigo. “Thank you, Jesus, and a special thank you to Patrick Reed and family. God bless!”
St. Benedict’s, the only emergency shelter for men in Owensboro, serves 60 men nightly and an estimated 350 plus men a year. It is currently a temporary housing shelter providing beds, showers, meals, and a laundry facility.
St. Benedict’s goal is to build a transitional home to enable men to progress to independent living while obtaining employment.
