The book nook located at Owensboro Middle School South Campus will open for the first time for students on Monday, March 21 at 1:30 p.m. OMS South teachers have transformed a storage closet into a cozy, inviting place filled with donated books of all genres.
“The book nook is a community collaboration that provides all students at South with access to free books,” said Patrick Tines, OMS South Principal.
OMS South officials say it is their mission to help students become college and career ready by providing a literature rich environment.
“We recognize that one obstacle our students face is a lack of literature in their homes. We hope the book nook will help fill that void by letting students take the books home. Hopefully, the atmosphere the book nook creates will make reading more fun for students,” added Tines.
Students can use the book nook before and after school. Teachers can also bring their classes down to the book nook at any time.
OPS already provides 24/7 access to books for elementary school students with Little Free Libraries located at each elementary school.
