The Kentucky Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP-KY), in conjunction with the Kentucky World Language Association (KWLA), has selected Lisa Garner as the 2017 recipient of the Kentucky Outstanding Spanish Teacher Award.

Garner teachers Spanish at Apollo High School in Owensboro, KY. She is a National Board Certified educator and attained her Rank I, Master of Arts in Education, and Bachelor of Arts degrees all from Western Kentucky University.

Among her many accomplishments, Garner has also traveled extensively abroad, sponsoring student trips to Spain, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Italy, Morocco, France, and Puerto Rico. She has also studied Spanish in Mexico.

“Lisa is an exemplary educator and a fine example for world language teachers across Kentucky. We are proud of Lisa’s accomplishments and the expertise that she brings to the classroom day after day,” AATSP-KY President Chris Anama-Green said.

The Kentucky World Language Association, founded in 1974, is dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction. Each year the organization recognizes individuals, businesses or other organizations that have made a significant contribution to the profession.

The association, on the recommendation of the Kentucky Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP-KY), is pleased to bestow the award of Kentucky Spanish Teacher of the Year to Mrs. Garner.
