The Kentucky Wesleyan College Student Success Center, located in the Winchester Student Center, celebrated with a grand opening and ribbon cutting this morning, Friday, Feb. 3, 2017.
The new center provides expanded and enhanced services previously offered by the Darrell PLUS Center. Conveniently located in a high-traffic area across from Jazzman’s Café, the center features private study rooms and offers academic support resources and programs from tutoring to group study sessions to study skills assistance to writing assistance.
Dean of Student Success Shane Armstrong and Director of Career Development Margaret Cambron work individually with students and connect them to appropriate campus and community resources to help them progress to graduation and beyond. Beginning with the fall 2016 freshman class, each incoming student completed the Learning and Study Skills Inventory during new student orientation. Results helped students and faculty plan and prepare effectively for success by identifying strengths and weakness. A Student Success Series offers weekly study skills workshops, including such topics as time management, dealing with anxiety and test strategies.
“Students love the fabulous new space,” said Dr. Armstrong, “and are taking advantage of the robust support services designed to enhance their student experience and help them develop success strategies that move them to graduation and successful, rewarding lives and careers.”
