Owensboro Living caught up with Kentucky Afield host Tim Farmer on a recent trip to Owensboro. Farmer and his film crew were hoping to land some monster catfish while filming an episode featuring “Monsters on the Ohio” director Aaron Wheatley.

“If you want to feel a good tug on the line, and you want something that will get your heart pumping, a good catfish will do it,” Farmer said. Kentucky Afield has covered Monsters on the Ohio the past couple years, so Tim says he jumped at the chance to fish with Wheatley. Farmer is no stranger to Owensboro, he was here for the Outdoor Expo at the Convention Center and has even fished here previously with Captain Paul Willett.

“Fishing is good all along the Ohio River, but Owensboro seems to be a real hotbed right now,” Farmer said. We certainly are gaining a reputation; since Monsters on the Ohio started, the Sea Ark Invitational and Bass Pro’s Big Cat Quest catfish tournaments have also come to Owensboro, which makes Owensboro Sports Tourism director Jared Bratcher extremely happy. Bratcher hopes Owensboro becomes the catfish capital of the world too. This episode of Kentucky Afield will help bring even more attention to Owensboro as a fishing destination.
