A new local radio show hopes to give listeners a sense of inspiration in a world full of “negative junk.”
“Inspiration Junkie Radio exists to give people positive, uplifting, and inspirational music and stories,” co-founder Tommy Mullins said.
The show will consist of two different forms of broadcast. The first being on radio and the second being live shows.
The radio portion of the show began on Friday, February 3rd. The show is carried on WOMI 99.1 FM and 1490 AM in Owensboro each Friday at 8:30 am.
Inspiration Junkie will feature guest artists sharing songs about first-hand experiences surrounding, struggles, triumphs, and family life. The purpose of the show is to ultimately provide narratives to inspire and lift the spirits of others.
The music will include acoustically driven country, bluegrass, folk, and Americana from local and nationally known artists.
The live shows are scheduled for the third Thursday of each month starting February 16, 2017. Each show will be held at the Empress Theatre (Theater Workshop of Owensboro) and times will always be 7:00 pm. The Empress Theatre is located at 418 Frederica Street in downtown Owensboro.
Lanham wants it to be an emotional experience. “We want people to laugh, cry, be motivated to make a change,” Lanham says. He hopes people will be inspired to be a light in the dark world and make a positive difference in the world.
The shows will always be recorded, both audio and video. The videos will air on Time Warner Cable local access channel while the audio will air on the radio show.
“Our objective is to have a weekly, 30-minute segment on the radio and ultimately have a syndicated radio show broadcast around the world,” Mullins said.
The current line-up is as follows:
- February 16th – Wade Hayes and Johnna Day
- March 16th – Layton Howerton and Emily Clark Shelton
- April 20th – Joe Christian and Tommy & Cathy Mullins
- May 18th – Jenny Beth Willis and Wayne Morris
- June 15th – Randy & Skylar Lanham and Hayley Payne
- July 20th – Alexis Roby Ward
The live shows will give access to two groups or artists a month. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Tickets are $10 for adults and ages 10 and under receive free admission.
