There’s nothing cuter than 4-6 year-olds completing their first triathlon. Several of them used floaties in the YMCA pool and training wheels on the bike portion of the course. Many parents ran alongside their little ones as they crossed the finish line in front of cheering crowds.
These youngsters, along with children 7-14 years-old, were given the full treatment; finish medals were placed around their necks and post-race photos were taken just like a real triathlon.
The side yard of the Owensboro Family YMCA served as the swim/bike and bike/run transition area, with volunteers cheering, waving, and pointing them in the right direction. Over 100 kids, ages 4-14, turned out for the first annual Owensboro Parent Kids Triathlon presented by Independence Bank. Additional sponsors included Legends, Academy Sports, Kidstop, and Gateway Urgent Care.
With double the expected turnout, this event is off to a great start, giving Owensboro’s next generation of runners, swimmers and bikers something to look forward to for years to come.
Race results will be posted soon. For more photos, visit Owensboro Parent’s Facebook page.
