Event to feed the hungry will be at Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church Parish Hall

What: Empty Bowls of Owensboro Fundraiser

When: Thursday, April 23, 2015
6:00 pm (doors open at 5:30, dinner and silent auction begin at 6:00)

Where: Saints Joseph and Paul Parish Hall
514 East 4th Street, Owensboro, KY 42301

Why: This event is part of a national movement to raise funds for those in need of food. Participants purchase a ticket that provides them with a soup dinner and a handcrafted bowl made exclusively for this event by local artisans and students from Brescia University. There will also be T-shirts sales, a silent auction featuring various items, and door prizes. Proceeds from the event are then presented to an applying organization that seeks to feed the hungry through a program or service they provide.

About Empty Bowls
Mission Statement – “Feeding Hungry People one Bowl at a Time”
Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement to help end hunger. Various community members and organizations are involved in the effort; area potters volunteer to make ceramic bowls, community members and organizations contribute through donations for a dinner of soup and fellowship. One hundred percent of the proceeds stay in the community and go to local food pantries. The goal of the movement is to raise money to help organizations fight hunger, raise awareness about the issues of hunger and food security, and to help bring about an attitude that will not allow hunger to exist.

About Brescia University
Brescia University is a Catholic, liberal arts institution founded in the Ursuline tradition of personal and social transformation through education by the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph in 1950. Its origins are in Mount Saint Joseph Junior College for Women, established at Maple Mount, Kentucky in 1925. Between 1925 and 1950, coeducational extension courses in Owensboro led to the creation of a second campus and, after 1949, consolidation of the two campuses at the present site of Brescia University. In 1951, Brescia began operating as a four-year college. Directed to academic and moral excellence in a student-centered environment, Brescia offers undergraduate and graduate programs that serve students who seek success through rewarding careers and service to others.
