After the deadline has passed for city of Evansville and the IceMen hockey franchise to reach a new lease agreement, Owensboro Living has confirmed that the city of Owensboro is in negotiations with the IceMen to bring Professional Hockey to Owensboro.
The Evansville IceMen are a minor league ice hockey team in the ECHL. The franchise has won four post-season championship titles in 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2005. Since the 2011–12 season the IceMen have played at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
Evansville IceMen’s lease with the Ford Center is ending after the 2015–16 season and negotiations for a lease extension with the city of Evansville since February 2015 have failed. There’s no word on where the IceMen will play if they move to Owensboro, but the 2016-17 season, which would begin in October, is quickly approaching.
