The City of Owensboro is now accepting applications for Police Officer and Evidence Collection Unit Technician at Owensboro Police Department.

POLICE OFFICER

MANDATORY EXAM SESSIONS – Applicants will be notified of assigned session. Please hold all dates listed.

  • Session #1
    September 22, 2017 – Written 6:00pm
    September 24, 2017 – Physical Ability 8:00am
  • Session #2
    September 23, 2017 – Written 8:00 am
    September 24, 2017 – Physical Ability 8:00am

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be a US Citizen
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be minimum age 21 by time sworn
  • High school diploma or GED
  • An Associate’s degree, or its equivalent, from an accredited college or university in law enforcement, social sciences,communications, management, or other field which is job-related OR
  • Two (2) years active duty military OR
  • Three (3) years law enforcement experience in a full-time capacity OR
  • An equivalent combination of job-related accredited college/university hours and prior law enforcement experience in a full-time capacity OR
  • Three (3) years full time experience employed in Central Dispatch at the Owensboro Police Department
  • Shall not be convicted felon nor be guilty of a Class A OR 3 or more Class B misdemeanors
  • Shall not have used illegal drugs within 12 months of anticipated hire date

EXCELLENT PAY AND BENEFITS:
Current Base hourly rate is $17.5612/hour. If you work 2,080 hours per year, this amounts to approximately $36,527. Provided benefits include, but are not limited to; health insurance, group life insurance, and wellness program. Paid time off including vacation, sick time, bereavement, military leave and holidays (for eligible employees). CERS Hazardous Duty Retirement through the Kentucky Retirement System. After completion of required training, police officers are eligible for $4000 a year in state incentive pay; subject to change.

Evidence Collection Unit Technician (Owensboro Police Department)

JOB SUMMARY:
Position is classified as Non-Hazardous and involves but is not limited to: collecting, processing, and preserving evidence at crime and traffic scenes. Occasionally, this position may require hazardous duty performance, such as special duty assignments, natural disasters, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AT TIME OF APPLICATION:
This position requires a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice or other job related field and a minimum of 10 years work experience as a law enforcement officer or as an evidence collection technician , or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable. Must be POPS certified by the State of Kentucky and have satisfactorily completed a Police Academy as a police officer and possess a valid driver’s license.
