Over 100 junior and senior girls from 13 different high schools were treated like princesses Saturday for the 2017 Cinderella’s Closet event.
Those 100+ juniors and seniors came from:
- Ohio County High School,
- Daviess County High School,
- Apollo High School,
- Russellville High School,
- Owensboro High School,
- McLean County High School,
- Webster County High School,
- Hancock County High School,
- Union County High School,
- Heritage Park High School,
- Gateway Academy,
- Heritage Hills High School,
- and Henderson High School.
At Cinderella’s closet, the girls chose from nearly 1,000 donated dresses, ranging in size from 00 to 32, to be used for their high school prom.
Co-organizer Carrie Kimbrell said there were around 150 volunteers on hand to assist girls with this wonderful event, handling everything from choosing dresses, shoes, and jewelry to making alterations and providing hair and makeup tips.
Cinderella’s Closet provides formal wear to girls who could not otherwise afford to attend their prom. “Even more than a dress, Cinderella’s Closet provides an unforgettable, amazing experience,” said Kimbrell. “From the moment our princesses dance through our doors, they are greeted with an environment of grace, love and respect. It is our mission that these girls will leave knowing they are cherished.”
During Saturday’s event, each “Cinderella” was greeted by her “Fairy Godmother” (personal shopper) during a special appointment time set between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. In the Cinderella waiting area, the girls had the opportunity to learn hair and makeup tips, decorate a pair of flip flops, and enjoyed refreshments. But as expected, the highlight of each girl’s time at Cinderella’s Closet was selecting a dress, shoes, and jewelry for her special night. If the dresses needed alterations, they were done on site immediately by a team of seamstresses. The dresses were then steamed and prepared for the girls to take home so they are ready for prom.
