The 4th annual Owensboro Air Show (1pm September 12 & 13) will undoubtedly be the focus for local residents and visitors the second weekend in September with large crowds of out of town guests converging downtown to enjoy aerial performances including the USAF Thunderbirds Jet Demonstration Team.
With the participation of the Thunderbirds, city officials are required to close a larger area of the Ohio River during the practice sessions, as well as the air show performances throughout the weekend. The larger safety area over the river requires the closure of the Glover Cary Bridge (Blue Bridge).
The Blue Bridge will be closed the following days and times for activities surrounding the Air Show:
Friday, September 11 – 2:00pm – 4:00pm (Air Show practice sessions)
Saturday, September 12 – 8:00am – 4:00pm (Hilliard Lyons Bridge Run, Bridge Day and Air Show)
Sunday, September 13 – 2:30pm – 4:30pm (Air Show)
In addition to the annual Air Show, Saturday, September 12 will also feature the annual Hilliard Lyons 5K & 10K Bridge Runs, the annual Bridge Day event, and Country Con at the Owensboro Convention Center.
The Hilliard Lyons Bridge Run events will kick-off Saturday morning at 8:15am at McConnell Plaza and provide local runners the unique, once-a-year opportunity to compete in either a 5K or 10K run across the ‘Blue Bridge’. Following the conclusion of the races, the bridge will open at 9:30am for the general public to enjoy a casual walk or bike ride across the bridge. The Bridge Day event will allow people to enjoy views of the downtown riverfront until 1:00pm when the bridge will be cleared of all pedestrians for the start of the 2015 Owensboro Air Show.
Country Con will also be taking place at the Owensboro Convention Center on Saturday, September 12. The event will feature live music on multiple stages from local, regional and Nashville-based country music acts, vendor booths with anything and everything a country music fan wants and needs from 10:00am – 7:00pm.
With noticeably larger crowds expected for the air show, be sure to arrive early downtown to find the perfect spot to watch the show. Or, if you want to enjoy the morning and have your seat reserved upon arrival, you can purchase reserved seating tickets at www.OwensboroTickets.com for just $10 per person.
