What’s better than watching the Westminster Dog Show on TV? Seeing the action for yourself!
Show Chair Cindi Bosley says coming to the River Valley Cluster AKC Dog Show is “just like what you see at the Westminster on TV, except at our show spectators can see the individual breed judging too. The breed winners advance to the group ring, and seven group winners advance to the Best In Show ring. Westminster only televises the Best in Show competition.”
This is no small show. There are over 3,000 confirmed entries for the five day event. AKC judges are coming from Canada, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, New Hampshire, Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio to officiate the competition.
Owensboro River City Kennel Club, Southern Indiana Kennel Club and Evansville Kennel Club have partnered to present the River Valley Cluster Dog Show, which will be held at the Owensboro Convention Center (501 W Second St) August 20 – 24. Show times are 8am to approximately 4pm daily.
There will be a lot to see during the five day cluster. The show is an AKC All Breed Dog Show for all five days, along with obedience trials and rally trials Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are invited to enjoy the competition, but also to watch the grooming process and learn more about dogs. All three of the exhibit halls and the lobby will be used during the event.
Purina is the main sponsor for the cluster. Other vendors will be onsite with various specialty dog items and canine products for sale. There will be a huge raffle with drawings on Saturday during the afternoon competition.
Bosley says there will also be a fun match with junior and kiddie divisions Saturday afternoon beginning 30 minutes after Best in Show. The match will accept entries on Saturday. Bring your dog and plan to show at approximately 4pm on Saturday. Entry is $7.00 for regular classes and $3 for junior and kiddie entries. (Please do not bring canine match entries to the show prior to 4:00pm.)
General Admission to the show is $5. Seniors over 60 & children 5-12 are $3. Children 5 & under are FREE!
