Because life after 65 can bring about new challenges, as well as opportunities, Brescia University is proud to offer a Day of Enrichment on October 22nd from 10:00 – 2:00 pm in the Campus Center at Brescia University. The event will feature three informational sessions including: Healthy Aging, Financial Smarts for Seniors and Home Safety.
Lunch will also be included. Seating is limited, so advance reservations are required by October 19th. A registration fee of $10 can be paid in advance or at the door.

Jeff has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with honors from the University of Kentucky. He serves as a guest speaker on various tax and planning topics, and has published articles in several tax publications.
Marianne Smith Edge, MS, RD, LD, FADA is Senior Vice President, Nutrition & Food Safety for the International Food Information Council (IFIC) in Washington, DC, a nonprofit organization that effectively communicates sound, science based information on nutrition and food safety to health professionals, educators, government officials, journalists and consumers.
In her role at IFIC, Smith Edge is responsible for directing the overall nutrition and food safety strategic initiatives of the organization, group facilitation and external collaborations. She also serves as IFIC’s spokesperson on various nutrition, food safety and health issues.
Smith Edge is an experienced communicator, strategic planner, and facilitator with over 25 years of experience. Prior to joining IFIC, she was the owner of MSE and Associates, LLC providing strategic nutrition consulting services for the food and healthcare industry, as well as commodity groups. Smith Edge’s expertise includes strategic positioning of nutritional products/services, nutrition communications, healthy aging and food allergies. She is a nationally recognized speaker in health, wellness and farm-to-table issues.
Smith Edge was the 2003H04 president of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and received the ADA Medallion Award in 2009. Smith Edge is also a member of the Institute for Food Technologists (IFT) and the American Public Health Association. She recently completed her second term on the USDA National Research, Extension, Education, & Economics Advisory Board, the advisory board to the Secretary of Agriculture.
Smith Edge holds a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from the University of Kentucky where she was a member of the Board of Trustees (2000H06) and a master’s degree in public health nutrition from Western Kentucky University. In August 2009, she earned a certification in Appreciative Inquiry from the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University.
Ed Hodskins, attorney-at-law, is a partner in Thacker, Hodskins, Searcy & Knight, LLP. Ed is a Brescia graduate and earned his J.D. at the University of Louisville School of Law. He has practiced law in Owensboro for 38 years with an emphasis upon estate planning and administration.
Chief Steve Leonard has served as City Fire Marshall for 21 years, and has served in fire service for 36 years. He is responsible for coordination and conduction of fire code enforcement and inspections, larceny investigation, and community fire and life safety and emergency preparedness.
Officer Jeremy Henry, is Crime Prevention Officer with the Owensboro Police Department.
Jim Weafer CFP® is one of five partners at Financial Freedom Partners, Certified Financial Planners. Jim is on the Board of Trustees at Brescia University and the Brescia Finance Committee. He previously served on the President’s Advisory Council at Brescia. He served on the Brescia University Alumni Board for eleven years and was President of the Alumni Board for two years. In 2012 he received the Distinguished Alumni Award and in 2014 the Outstanding Alumnus Award at Brescia University. He served on numerous committees with the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce and chaired the Chamber’s Golf Event for six years. Also, he has served on numerous other boards including RWRA, the Owensboro Help Office, Mount St. Joe Advisory Board and the Mayor’s Cable Advisory Committee. Jim was the Chamber’s Member of the Year for 2006 and was nominated as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2009. He also is a 2007 graduate of Leadership Owensboro. Jim is married to Dixie Weafer and has two daughters, Candice Moore and Robin Sullivan.
