Not wearing white after Labor Day is still a fashion rule for many. But hold on – the Owensboro Symphony wants everyone to “break the rule” and be a part of their Second Annual White on Second – a European-style dinner in the middle of Owensboro’s Second Street.
On Saturday evening, September 19, 2015, Bella Ragazza Boutique will present the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra’s White on Second. This elegant event is alfresco dining at its best, celebrating the end of summer and the opening of the Symphony’s Fiftieth season of celebration.
Fashionistas and designers will take the opportunity to show off their style, decorating their tables with all white flowers and candles while wearing all white fascinators, dresses, top hats and suits. The best dressed table will be awarded the top prize of two round-trip airline tickets to St. Louis on Cape Air, tickets to the St. Louis Symphony. Guests will enjoy their dinner in the middle of Second Street while taking pleasure in a performance by the Symphony’s principal pianist, Diane Earle. The fun will continue with dancing in the street to the music of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra’s 2nd St Big Band. All entertainment for the event is sponsored by First Security Bank.
Tables and chairs for eight are $80.00, while general seating is $15.00 per person. Tables are limited, therefore reservations and payments must be made in advance by calling the Symphony at 270-684-0661 or through TheOSO.com.
“We were overwhelmed by the response to this fun and unusual event last September. People have been talking about it all year and asking us to do it again,” said Dan Griffith, CEO of the Owensboro Symphony. “For us, it’s about getting people involved in their Symphony. It’s an important fund and friend raiser for our city’s symphony. Engaging the community in something fresh and fun is what we are all about.”
Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic baskets of fine food, proper stemware and white dinnerware or they can simply order their meals ahead of time from their favorite Owensboro dining establishments and pick them up on the way downtown. A white table cloth will be provided. Advance planning is encouraged! Most chefs throughout the city have advised the Symphony they need time to prepare special picnic meals.
“People have been calling the Symphony since early summer asking about White on Second. We have already sold more than half the tables we sold for the whole event last year. The event promises to be much larger than last year’s event. I would encourage guests to reserve their tables ASAP,” said Sara Jackson, Director of Marketing for the Owensboro Symphony.
A fine selection of wine, beer and white sangria will be for sale at the event. Those wanting to purchase sangria for their whole table should bring their own pitchers to be filled at the bar.
Second Street in Downtown Owensboro will be closed to traffic early in the day on September 19. Guests can begin decorating their tables at 4 p.m. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will end when the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra 2nd St Big Band concludes their entertainment at 10:00 p.m.
