Flight times for the Scholastic 3-D Archery program are 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13; and 8 and 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14.
Nearly 200 students representing teams from across the state are expected to compete. Local schools that will be represented include Daviess County, Apollo and Owensboro Catholic high schools; Burns, College View and Daviess County middle schools; and Audubon and Southern Oaks elementary schools.
Those attending should enter at the main gate (Bittel Hall entrance) off Kentucky 54. Golf cart shuttle service will be available upon request. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students younger than 18 years of age.
Concessions will be available on site. The building is insulated but not heated. Pedestal heaters will be located throughout the facility, but those attending are advised to dress appropriately.
“This will be the first tournament of its kind to be hosted in Daviess County,” said S3DA executive director Jeannie Richardson. “Having been the location of various National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) tournaments, the county is very excited to play host to the first S3DA event. During the event, competitors will be shooting at the National Field Archery Association indoor 5-spot target face. Archers will shoot six ends of official scoring, five arrows per end, for a maximum possible score of 300.”
According to the S3DA website – s3da.org – “The Scholastic 3D Archery (S3DA) is a youth archery organization committed to providing school age students the opportunity to compete in tournaments that mirror professional adult events. The mission of the program is to foster, educate, and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices.”
The West Region Championship is one of three regional events that will be held in Kentucky this year. The state tournament will be held in Madisonville and the national tournament will take place in Cincinnati. Following the indoor competition season, teams will begin preparing for the outdoor 3D season.
