The Apollo High School Theatre Department participated in the Kentucky Theatre Association High School Play Festival on Nov. 11-12, performing “Miss Polly’s Institute for Criminally Damaged Young Ladies Puts on a Show” by Don Zolidis. The competition took place on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington.
AHS students, under the direction of April Berry, captured numerous awards. Tori Avery won best actress in Kentucky – the second year in a row this honor has been presented to an AHS student.
Lexi Johnson was named to the All-State cast and Gabe Bartley was recognized for best student director.
Gabe and Lexi are juniors at Apollo High School and Tori is a senior.
“I am so very proud of my theatre students,” Berry said. “They received superior ratings and won first place at Regionals earlier this month at Madisonville. Their performance at the state competition this past weekend continued to show growth and amazing talent. All students involved in the competition show, from those working behind the scenes to those on stage, have given this show their best effort.”
