The Owensboro Police Department is excited to announce the 4th Annual “Run from the Cops 5K” and the 11th Annual Police Awareness Day. Both events are scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Owensboro Police Department.

The Run from the Cops 5k is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and will start and end at the Owensboro Police Department. Registration information can be viewed on our website at owensboro.org, or you can register in person at the Owensboro Police Department. Costumes are encouraged! Money raised by this event will go to the specialty units within the Owensboro Police Department.

The Police Awareness Day event will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the back parking lot for those interested in meeting some of our officers. It is open to the public and everyone is welcome to join us for free hotdogs, hamburgers, and drinks. We will have several booths set up that will highlight the various aspects of police work; displays will include

  • Hazardous Devices Unit
  • K-9 Unit
  • Evidence Collection Unit
  • Emergency Response Unit
  • and several vehicles

For our younger visitors, we will offer an inflatable playhouse, child I.D. kits, and other kid activities. Be sure to take one of our guided building tours during your visit as well.

As an additional service to the community, there will be a manned prescription drug toss location on site during the event for any unwanted and/or expired prescription medications. Just remember, we cannot accept needles or liquids when tossing your medications.

Come join the fun on Saturday, April 23. We hope to see you there!
