Owensboro is a very giving community. Many of us volunteer for non-profits, maybe even serve on their boards, and attend fundraising banquets for charities throughout the year. The format for most fundraising banquets is generally the same because it works: supporters buy a ticket for a nice dinner, hear a guest speaker, and are asked to make a donation at the end of the night.
But Mentor Kids Kentucky came up with a very unique and interesting idea for their banquet this year – a family movie night that they are calling an “unbanquet” which will take place Friday, February 20th.
“We wanted take a twist on the typical non-profit banquet format that would also be right in line with our vision to care for at-risk youth. So instead of asking people to attend a banquet, we’re encouraging them to stay home with their kids or other family members that night to promote parenthood and family time,” said Executive Assistant Sarah Kenworthy.
Now here’s where it gets interesting: in lieu of purchasing a ticket and making a donation at the banquet, Mentor Kids is asking people to stay at home and purchase a “family movie night” package for their unbanquet. I don’t want to ruin all the surprise, but let’s just say that 54 Pizza Express and Family Video are the corporate sponsor partners for this event and there will be some other movie night essentials in the package too.
Packages can be picked up at the Mentor Kids office (2815 Veach Road) on Friday, February 20th between 8am-5pm.
Individual “unbanquet” movie night packages can be purchased for $50. Date Night movie packages are $75 and Family Packages are $100. Then, instead of running around another night, just stay at home, relax, and enjoy your gift package.
As an added bonus, for those who would like to make an additional donation, for every $100 extra a single mom in the mentor program will receive a Family Package! Businesses can also become a “producer” or “director” (formerly table sponsors) and purchase Family Packages as gifts for employees and associates.
MentorKids KY exists to love at-risk children by providing Christian adults to become their role models and companions.
