Depending on weather, a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a traffic shift in phases along the U.S. 60/Wendell Ford Expressway work zone around Owensboro starting Tuesday, July 7, 2015.

KYTC engineers and the contractor emphasize that this traffic shift will be highly weather dependant and is subject to change.
The new traffic pattern will be similar to the current traffic pattern except all traffic will be traveling on the newly rehabbed eastbound lanes instead of the westbound lanes. This new traffic arrangement will allow the contractor to begin rehabilitation work along the westbound lanes.

Weather permitting, the tentative schedule will be:

Tuesday, July 7
 – Eastbound US 60 traffic will be moved back to the original eastbound lanes & restricted to the right-hand or driving lane only. Westbound traffic will remain on the westbound lanes with all ramps open.

Wednesday through Friday, July 8-10 – Westbound traffic will move to the newly rehabbed eastbound lanes establishing two-way traffic on the eastbound lanes
. Westbound traffic will no longer have access to entry or exit ramps at US 431 and KY 81. Crossovers will be installed at the Audubon Pkwy, Carter Rd, and near mile point 15.5.

Motorists should take note that as this transition evolves, the eastbound entry and exit ramps that are now closed will be reopened and the westbound entry and exit ramps that are now open will be closed.

This work zone along U.S. 60/The Wendell Ford Expressway around Owensboro runs from mile point 10.179 at the KY 331/Bon Harbor Hills Road intersection and extends eastward to mile point 15.50 near the Horse Fork Creek Bridge, a distance of 5.32 miles.

Additional traffic advisories will be issued as the project advances and necessary traffic configurations are added. Due to the high level of construction activity along this section, motorists may wish to seek an alternate route to avoid these work zone lane and traffic restrictions.
