Brescia University has been named to the “100 Most Affordable Small Colleges East of the Mississippi” list published by Great Value Colleges, a premier website that serves as a resource for perspective students.
Brescia was among only seven schools in Kentucky to be recognized, ranking 27th overall. The list seeks to highlight small schools (4,000 students or less) that offer a four-year degree at a great value. Over 400 colleges met the enrollment and location qualifications and were considered for the honor.
Brescia University was highlighted as one of the most affordable private colleges in Kentucky, offering personalized, student-centered education with small class sizes, experiential coursework and internships, making “great spiritual and professional education available to all.” Other schools listed include Berea College (2nd), Alice Lloyd College (12th), Kentucky State University (19th), Campbellsville University (48th), Lindsey Wilson College (70th), and Kentucky Wesleyan College (78th).
It was also announced last week that the Board of Trustees approved to extend Fr. Larry Hostetter’s contract as President of the University until May 31, 2020. Vicki Stogsdill, Chair of the Trustees, led the board in a vote on Thursday, June 25, 2015.
“The Board is very pleased to confirm that Fr. Larry will continue to lead Brescia University as President,” said Stogsdill. “Under his leadership, Brescia University has flourished, reaching an enrollment landmark of 1,000 students and seeing the kickoff of a $10 million ‘Campaign for Brescia University: Gateway to the Second Century.’ As Brescia truly embarks on their second century, we are confident in the leadership of President Hostetter and the outstanding Cabinet, faculty, and staff.”

About Brescia University: Brescia University is a Catholic, liberal arts institution founded in the Ursuline tradition of personal and social transformation through education by the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph in 1950. Its origins are in Mount Saint Joseph Junior College for Women, established at Maple Mount, Kentucky in 1925. Between 1925 and 1950, coeducational extension courses in Owensboro led to the creation of a second campus and, after 1949, consolidation of the two campuses at the present site of Brescia University. In 1951, Brescia began operating as a four-year college. Directed to academic and moral excellence in a student-centered environment, Brescia offers undergraduate and graduate programs that serve students who seek success through rewarding careers and service to others.
