The front yard of the former Texas Gas building will be a sea of blue this Thursday, April 14 from 4 – 6 p.m. as the community joins in “The Stand Against Child Abuse.”
The stand is held every year in April to coincide with National Child Abuse Prevention Month. GRADD’s Community Collaboration for Children (CCC) and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services’ Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) collaborate for the annual event as a way to raise awareness and bring attention to the issue of child abuse.
The family event is free and open to the public. All ages are invited to participate and show their support. During the two-hour stand, kids can enjoy:
- door prizes and giveaways
- face painting
- balloons
- bubbles
- a coloring station
- and snow cones
- as well as meeting several members of the Kentucky Mavericks and “Blizzard,” the Owensboro Icemen mascot.
Businesses along Frederica will also show their support by displaying blue pinwheels or messages of support on signs or marquees.
In case of rain, the backup date is April 21.
