Several “Don’t Miss” 5Ks

It’s been hot as blazes lately, but soon it will be perfect running weather. If you’ve been meaning to start running “one of these days,” fall is the perfect time of year to begin. To get started, you can Google “Couch to 5K” running plans to get you going and keep you motivated. If you need a goal to shoot for, here is a partial list of upcoming 5Ks – a few new and interesting ones and a few old favorites. (*For a more comprehensive list and more information check with owensbororunningclub.com or thenextlegend.com.)

Hilliard Lyons Health and Fitness 5K – Saturday, September 6th at 9am starting at McConnell Plaza downtown. What makes this run interesting is the chance to run across the blue bridge and back while the bridge is closed to traffic.

Healthy Owensboro 5K – Saturday, September 20th at 9am downtown. The Junior League of Owensboro is presenting this 5K starting at Smother’s Park and ending at Studio Slant.

Runway 5K – Friday Night, October 3rd at the Airport. As part of the Air Show activities, this is a unique chance to run on the taxiway with all the runway lights on. You don’t get to do that every day!

Turkey Day 5 Miler – Saturday, November 22nd. A Thanksgiving tradition for many Owensboro area runners, this is a 5 mile run to pre-burn lots of calories for turkey feasting.

Holiday Hustle – Saturday, December 6th starting at Dairy Queen on 231. O’boro Parks and Rec puts on this very popular 5K every year, which is an out-and-back on the greenbelt that includes breakfast at Dairy Queen following the race.

-You can also download “Couch to 5K” app or other fitness apps. There are lots to choose from.
-The Greenbelt is a great place to train. Read Tips to Enjoy the Greenbelt for more info…
– Legends has Tuesday night group runs at 5:30.
