The Empowerment Academy Board of Directors will host “In a Perfect World,” a fundraiser luncheon sponsored by Specialty Food Group at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at the Owensboro Convention Center.
Empowerment Academy Chair David Boswell will present welcoming remarks before introducing featured speakers Selena Coalter and United States Senator Rand Paul.
The purpose of the event is to increase awareness about teens in our community who are homeless, couch-hopping and/or otherwise living in challenging situations and in need of long-term housing, life skills training and educational encouragement and to raise funds for renovation of Saint Angela Hall on the Ursuline campus at Maple Mount.

Masonic Lodges 130 and 957 and will be presenting a check to the Empowerment Academy during the event. The Masonic Lodges held a golf scramble to benefit the Empowerment Academy on October 24, 2015.
Tickets to the event are $35 each and are available to the general public online at owensborotickets.com or may be purchased in person at the Owensboro Convention Center (501 West Second Street).
Event sponsorships are available for $1000 (16 seats); table sponsorships are available for $280 and include 8 seats. About Selena Coalter
Selena Coalter is a 17-year-old senior at Daviess County High School where she is an active member of National Honor Society, Beta Club and president of Family, Career & Community Leaders of America and participates with the school newspaper
Selena was chosen to participate in the Commonwealth Honors Academy hosted at Murray State University last summer. She earned six hours college credit by participating in this three-week residential honors program for high school students going into their senior year. Selena has been accepted to and received scholarships from Murray State University where she plans to major in Accounting and participate in Study Abroad.
About Senator Rand Paul
Senator Rand Paul, M.D. has been married for 20 years to the former Kelley Ashby, who is originally from Russellville, Kentucky. Rand and Kelley have three sons: William, 18; Duncan, 14; and Robert, 11.
Dr. Paul and his family live in Bowling Green, where Rand owned his own ophthalmology practice and performed eye surgery for 18 years. Rand is a devoted husband and father. He regularly volunteers to coach teams for each of his three sons in Little League baseball, soccer, and basketball. Rand and Kelley have been members of The Presbyterian Church since 1993, where Kelley currently serves as a Deacon. Rand is a hard-working, dedicated physician, not a career politician. His entrance into politics is indicative of his life’s work: a desire to diagnose problems and provide practical solutions.
He pledges to work every day in the U.S. Senate at reforming government and ending business as usual here in our nation’s capital.
