Owensboro Dance Theatre presents professional dance company, Apex Dance, from Denver, Colorado on September 24th, 2016, at 7:30 PM, at the RiverPark Center in downtown Owensboro.
With Owensboro Dance Theatre company members opening the concert, Apex Dance will present PIXELATED, a storyline that pulls at the heartstrings.
A love story for the digital age, PIXELATED is a multimedia dance concert, based on the story of Pygmalion, featuring beautifully captivating digital effects combined with exceptional dance performances. A work of love, loss, passion and love again, renowned choreographer David Reuille and Apex Dance brings to life an evening-length performance that has been almost eight years in the making.
PIXELATED is based on the original story Pygmalion, which features a man who falls in love with a sculpture he creates. The modern day story of PIXELATED transforms this story into the future with the artist creating a digital woman who comes to life in his apartment, but who also slips in and out of the digital world at the same time. While struggling with this bizarre turn of events, the artist falls in love with his creation. The show uses comedy and suspense to captivate from beginning to end.
What makes PIXELATED unique is Reuille’s ability to use modern technology advancements. These allow digital mapping of the set whereby different scenes can be brought to life on stage through the use of interactive video projection. Cameras track performers as they dance on stage allowing the video to move in relation to the performer’s movements. The stage is alternately transformed in and out of visually stunning digital environments allowing for a fun and unique marriage of dance and multimedia video projection.
Reuille’s professional career has spanned 20 years and eight countries. He has danced with the Lexington Ballet, Louisville Ballet, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, and Parsons Dance and toured the globe nationally and internationally. As a choreographer, he created dances for numerous professional dance companies earning numerous awards. Television credits include the PBS documentary Free to Dance in addition to so much more.
In addition to Apex Dance, Owensboro Dance Theatre will be opening the show! They will be performing a piece titled An Elegant Ruckus, choreographed by David Reuille. With a great amount of athleticism and dancers working together this piece is sure to excite the crowd and be a wonderful showcase of what ODT can do.
