A just-released Niche Local ranking lists Owensboro as the second best town to live in in Kentucky. Niche ranks towns based on livability using grades for weather, safety, schools, and access to activities, jobs, housing, and transportation. (The ranking does denote that “towns” exclude suburbs and cities with over 100,000 residents, I.E Louisville and Lexington.)
Niche gave Owensboro an overall grade of B, but we scored A’s in two categories: “Things to Do” and “Ease of Commute.” (Obviously, they must have graded us before all the current construction. But let’s be honest, closed Frederica exits aside, we can usually get anywhere in town in 15 minutes.)
According to Niche Local, the top five KY towns were Murray, Owensboro, Wilmore (Jessamine County. They scored an overall A, but have a population of 5,400), Bowling Green, and Paducah. Murray scored slightly higher than Owensboro in education and health & fitness. Owensboro was listed as having a population of 57,763 covering 21 square miles.
