The Owensboro Pickleball Association (OPA) is expected to announce the details of a large pickleball tournament during its “Bring On The Heat” outdoor tournament on May 18 and 19 at Moreland Park located at 1215 Hickman Avenue. The actual announcement will be made on May 19 at Noon. Organizers say the announcement will be one of the largest pickleball tournaments in the region.
“Pickleball as a sport is exploding across the country right now. We want to capture some of that momentum and bring it to Owensboro,” said Rene Kuegel, OPA Executive Director and United States of America Pickleball Association Ambassador (USAPA).
“We have to go beyond our comfort zone when recruiting sports tournaments to Owensboro. I’m excited to try something new like pickleball in Daviess County. One great aspect of this sport is anyone can play no matter their age or ability. The economic impact of this planned tournament will be huge for Owensboro,” said Jared Bratcher, Visit Owensboro, Sports Director.
The “Bring On The Heat” tournament has six divisions with women’s doubles beginner, men’s doubles beginner, women’s doubles 3.0+, men’s doubles 3.0+, women’s doubles 4.0+ and men’s doubles 4.0+. If you don’t have a partner to play in the “Bring On The Heat” tournament, there is a partner list available. You must register by May 14 at Noon online at owensboropickleball.org or by calling Rene` Kuegel at (270) 302-0307. It’s $15 for OPA members and $20 for non-members.
