The Owensboro Fire Department announced their 2016 awards at a ceremony Saturday evening.
Fire Chief Steve Mitchell stated, “All of our Firefighters are dedicated professionals that endure personal risk to serve our citizens. Our personnel are also involved in continuous improvement efforts within the organization, as well as serve in many forms of community involvement outside the Department. Many would be well deserve to be recognized. Tonight we honor just a few of those.”
Merit Award – Firefighter Corey Gant
Firefighter Gant has been at OFD since September 2010 and is assigned to Fire Station #1. In 2016 OFD, celebrated 150 years of service to the community and held a Community Anniversary celebration for the public at the Owensboro Convention Center in August. Firefighter Gant was tapped by Chief Mitchell to plan, organize and coordinate the set up and tear down of the event. Because of his efforts, the event ran very smoothly.
Firefighter of the Year – Andrew Behl
Firefighter Behl has been with OFD since December 2011 and is a Firefighter at Fire Station #5. While instrumental in organizational efforts, Andrew utilizes his own time to coordinate “care events” such as fundraisers for those in need, in particular, current and retired Firefighters. Firefighter Behl works hard behind the scenes and we are pleased to finally recognize his efforts.
Driver/Engineer of the Year – Eric Ball
Engineer Ball joined OFD in April 2001 and is assigned as a Driver/Operator of Engine 4 at Fire Station #4. Engineer Ball is extremely conscientious about the apparatus under his care and maintaining the knowledge of his run area as well as the city at large.
