Students and staff at Newton Parrish Elementary are raising money for March of Dimes via a Bicycle Rodeo on Saturday, April 15 from 9-10:30 a.m. in the back parking lot of Owensboro High School. The rodeo will include a safety inspection to make sure bikes are good to ride, a safety talk led by OHS cycling students and around 10 bike activities where students can sharpen their riding skills.
“I wanted to encourage the Parent Teacher Organization to take on a fundraising event that promotes health and exercise for our students and parents. The bike rodeo is the perfect fit,” said Steve Bratcher, Newton Parrish principal.
Only Newton Parrish students and their siblings can participate in the rodeo’s inaugural year. It’s $10 for an entire family to participate.
The cost is $10 for an entire family to participate. Participants can pay the day of the event at OHS. Again, all proceeds will go to the March of Dimes.
- Max’s Bike Shop will do the bicycle inspections.
- Chick-fil-A will provide breakfast.
- Big O Bike Shop and Legends also have donated to make the event possible.
“The timing of the event couldn’t be better with summer just around the corner. We want to make sure that students’ bikes are in good shape and that they know how to ride their bikes in the safest way possible,” said Katy Harrison, Newton Parrish teacher.
