Chris Massey of Owensboro announced on his personal Facebook page last week that he plans to open Iron Jungle Gym, a 24-hour fitness facility in the old The Next Level building. Massey, who has been weight lifting for more than 30 years, says it has always been his dream to open his own gym.
Working for American Electric Power, Massey travels a lot. While on the road, he makes it a point to visit gyms not only to work out, but also to research for his own facility. While in Columbus, Ohio, Massey found a gym similar to what he dreamed of opening. The owner told him to “go big or go home,” and that is just what Massey intends to do.
The 32,000 sq ft facility will allow Massey, “to bring a package unmatched not only in Owensboro, but in the state of Kentucky.”
Features of Iron Jungle will include: free child care, a women’s only gym, an indoor walking/running track, second floor mezzanine cardio area, in-house supplement store, fit meal restaurant area, full regulation basketball court, free tanning and more, according to Massey.
“There is going to be everything for everybody,” Massey said, “I want to bring the total package to Owensboro.”
Massey says this will be the largest privately-owned gym in the state from his research. He says throughout his travels, he has never visited a gym that will offer as much as he plans to offer at Iron Jungle.
Massey says June 1 is his target opening date. A single membership will cost $24.95 until June 1. After that the normal rate of $29.95 will apply.
