For anyone trying to eat healthy, get in shape or maintain special dietary restrictions, meal prep seems to be an affordable, effective trend. Typically on the weekend, “meal preppers” will cook food for the following week and package meals in functional, reusable containers. This avoids the temptation of eating fast, but unhealthy lunches throughout the week.
Ben Skiadas, operating partner of Lure Seafood and Grille, started meal prepping for himself. “I know most of my bad eating decisions are a result of grabbing something quick, easy, and affordable, but I wanted a way to ensure my hectic schedule didn’t dictate a bad diet anymore,” Ben said. “I knew meal prepping was going to be the key to me controlling my diet.”
But Skiadas said it became quickly apparent that meal prepping was just too time consuming.
“Also, I was sacrificing variety in my diet for ease of preparation, and I knew I would likely get bored of eating the same two or three things repetitively,” Ben said. “That’s when I saw the opportunity to offer something to our community that can truly make a difference. I knew that I could offer high quality and great tasting healthy meals at an affordable price point out of the professional kitchens I already had.”
In January 2018, Skiadas began offering a meal prep program through his restaurant.
“This service is highly customizable, and we are seeing orders from all walks of life,” Ben said. “We have couples and even whole families ordering together to better their diets as a team. Busy professionals love how much time this saves them. Vegans and vegetarians are excited about their ordering options. There’s even one mother who is ordering because she enjoys cooking what her husband and kids want, but she is tired of cooking her own vegetarian meals too. We are cutting her work in half and everyone in her family is getting what they want! It’s really awesome to start to hear how we are affecting peoples lives for the better.”
The meals from Lure range from $7.99 to $12.99. Customers receive $1 off of each meal when they order a whole week of food (7 meals). Order deadlines are Thursday at 10 p.m. for pick up or delivery on the customer’s choice of the following Sunday or Monday. To place an order customers can either call Lure at 270-240-4556, email at [email protected], or message them on the Lure Fit Meal Prep Facebook page. Ben says the Facebook page is a great way to see what customers have said about the program and see photos and descriptions of the food.
“We have had fantastic feedback and a good number of repeat customers already,” Ben said. “The orders we have had since we began in January of this year has been very manageable, but we are looking forward to seeing how many lives we can improve as we grow!”
