A committee charged with considering names for a new alternative high school in the Daviess County Public Schools district is now accepting nominations. Anyone wishing to submit a name for consideration may send suggestions in any of these three ways:
· Send by email to Tony Bryant at [email protected]
· Call Beacon Central High School at 270-852-7200
· Mail or take ideas in writing to BCHS at 6500 U.S. 231 or to the DCPS Central Office at
1622 Southeastern Parkway, addressed to “New Alternative School Naming Committee”
Suggestions should include the name of the person submitting the idea and telephone number or other contact information; and any rationale to support the suggestion.
Submissions must be received by 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24.
The DCPS Board of Education voted to purchase the Daymar College property at 3361 Buckland Square during a special meeting on Aug. 15. The new campus will replace the current Beacon Central High School building, located at 6500 U.S. 231.
The committee will review all suggestions and, in accordance with DCPS administrative procedures, will select three names to be submitted to the Superintendent to be shared with the Board of Education for consideration.
Those submitting nominations should be aware that DCPS policy states that buildings named for individuals are limited to individuals who are deceased.
BCHS Principal Tony Bryant said, “This is an exciting time in the history of our school and district. We are moving forward with an innovative vision for academic plans as well as college and career pathways, and we want the name of this school to reflect our commitment to student success.”
