For the first time in 21 seasons of Friday After 5, an additional stage will be added in anticipation to the large crowd expected for the LOCASH concert July 21, 2017, sponsored by Champion Ford.
Since the LOCASH appearance is part of Friday After 5, their performance will be FREE to the public, like all concerts at FA5.
“Based on the success of the band, and the fact this is a free concert, Friday After 5 and the City are expecting more people than the 1,500-2,000 people the RiverPark patio can safely hold,” said Duke Brubaker, of Champion Ford.
“It is rare for a national act with the following of LOCASH to headline a free community concert,” explained FA5 Executive Director Teresa Thomas. “The number of fans will exceed what our regular venues can accommodate and thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Champion Ford, we are anticipating a record crowd.”
Kirk Kirkpatrick, a Friday After 5 board member, says based on buzz in the community organizers are expecting in the neighborhood of 5-6,000 people. “If you look at LOCASH’s schedule, ticket prices for similar shows are in the range of $50-$60, so to have a free show like this, thanks to Champion Ford, that’s why we thought we’d better add a venue to accommodate the crowd.”
As a result, the new plan is to add the Champion Ford stage in the lawn at the Convention Center for this special FA5 concert. Brubaker says the Convention Center will make a nice backdrop. “It will be a bigger stage, and a bigger sound for the bigger crowd.”
Organizers are even talking about shutting down 2nd Street if needed.
The LOCASH concert is scheduled to begin at 8pm July 21, 2017.
The band Insulated will now be playing the Jagoe Homes patio stage on the BB&T Plaza at the RiverPark Center starting at 6:30pm.
LOCASH has built a strong following since appearing in Owensboro in 2012 at Big O Music Festival. The duo made a presence on radio with such records as the feel-good anthem “Here Comes Summer,” and the tender emotions of “Keep In Mind” and “Best Seat In The House,” as well as co-writing songs with Keith Urban and Tim McGraw. With their latest album, they earned their first #1 hit on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with “I Know Somebody” in October of ’16 and “I Love This Life” went to #2. Their latest hit, “Ring on Every Finger,” is currently moving up the charts.
“The Friday After 5 crew has done an amazing job with logistics for the show. They’ve been great to work with. It’s going to be a fantastic night,” Brubaker added. Teresa Thomas in turn thanked the Convention Center and City Events staff for being so accommodating.
As presenting sponsor, Champion Ford will have LOCASH trucks on hand (see them here) that night at FA5 and will also be giving away some VIP “Meet and Greet” passes. Register to win in person at Champion Ford, Lincoln, Mazda on Southtown Boulevard; Championship Auto Sales on Highway 54; or Champion Ford REO in Rockport.
Concessions will be available for purchase throughout the night. No outside food or beverages are allowed. Guests are allowed to bring their own lawn chairs if they wish and the concert on the lawn is standing room only.
