Daviess County High School will host Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton at a special reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, in the DCHS media center. The school is located at 4255 New Hartford Road.

The event will feature the official kick-off for the 2018 Lt. Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge, which is designed to encourage innovative business plans and products developed by high school students across the state. The inaugural event was won in 2017 by a team of students from Daviess County High School, who created the “Dolphin Logger” online school bus tracking app.

In addition to Lt. Gov. Hampton, elected officials from Daviess County and Kentucky will be in attendance, as well as representatives from local and regional businesses. Members of the Dolphin Logger team and their families have also been invited to attend.

“Small business is the backbone of the American economy,” said Lt. Gov. Hampton. “It is critical for Kentucky students not only to learn about and experience entrepreneurship but also for them to see themselves as the next generation of small business owners.”

DCHS business teacher Stephen “Barney” Hall, who sponsored last year’s LGEC state championship team, said, “It is an honor that the Lt. Governor has chosen DCHS to kick off the 2018 campaign of the LGEC. The LGEC competition is just an example of how important – and in Daviess County High School’s case, rewarding – it is to get students involved in learning and excited about entrepreneurship, but also to that understand successful entrepreneurs have to be risk-takers and believe in their ideas. Who knows? The next Steve Jobs (founder of Apple) or Jeff Bezos (founder of Amazon) could come from right here at Daviess County High School.”

The event is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about LGEC or supporting entrepreneurship among students of today, who will be leaders of tomorrow. A special invitation is extended to interested students, parents, business leaders and high school educators.

Light refreshments will be served.
