Shopping at the Farmers’ Market is fun! And delicious local food is just the beginning.
This year, the market has a great line up of special events, beginning with the Kids Day Kick-Off Fest at the Farmers’ Market on May 23. Bring the whole family, shop for the freshest fruits and vegetables in the region and enjoy all of the family activities.
Meet the characters from the movie “Frozen” 8-10 a.m. and enjoy live performances by local elementary school groups, including the Southern Oaks chorus at 9 a.m. and the West Louisville percussion group at 10 a.m. Owensboro Dance Theatre will perform at 9:30 a.m. Other special Guests are Edge Body Boot Camp and Creative “R” U, Daviess County Cattlemen’s Association.
The market will host many special events this season, including Taste of Farmers’ Market Fest on May 30, Family Farm Day at the Farmers’ Market on June 6, Hometown Hero Day at the Farmers’ Market on June 13, Eat Local Food Fest at Farmers’ Market on June 20 and Health & Wellness Family Fest at Farmers’ Market on June 27.
The market is open 6:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot of Owensboro Christian Church, 2818 New Hartford Road. The market features locally grown produce, flowers, meats, baked goods and lots of surprises. In addition to traditional favorites, the market offers many special varieties of heirloom vegetables and herbs. The market also offers locally raised beef, pork, chicken and eggs.
Beginning in June, the market will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at Owensboro Christian Church and collaborate with Owensboro Health to offer fresh local food options 1:30-5:30 p.m. at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, 1201 Pleasant Valley Road. SNAP/EBT, WIC and Senior Nutrition checks are welcome at all locations.
