Students at Apollo High School and Owensboro High school had some unexpected guests drop in this week (literally!) when the U.S. Army “Golden Knights” Parachute Team parachuted onto their football fields during school assemblies. The Golden Knights jumped at Apollo yesterday morning at 8:20 and OHS this morning at 10am.
The Golden Knights are in town to perform during the Owensboro Air Show sponsored by the City of Owensboro this weekend and took the opportunity to visit the school assembly to promote the Air Show and draw attention to the armed forces.
The Golden Knights participate in more than 200 demonstrations across the nation and around the world each year. The Army Ambassadors perform precision free-fall exhibitions to illustrate their pride in serving our country.
Lee Elder, who serves as chief of advertising and public affairs for the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion in Nashville, said the high school exhibitions also include an opportunity to inform students of the variety of career and education opportunities available through service in the U.S. Army.
The Golden Knights will be performing during the Owensboro Air Show Saturday over the downtown riverfront starting at 1pm.
